Bolu Kukus is a Balinese steamed cupcakes that are often used in offerings. Especially during big ceremonies such as Galungan and Kuningan, Balinese people make this cupcakes in large quantities. After these cupcakes are used in offerings, it is served to families and friends. Bolu Kukus comes in sweet taste and soft texture, hence, this cupcake is enjoyed by people from all ages in Bali. The cupcake comes in various cute colors which attracts many people, Bolu Kukus can be found easily in traditional markets and bakery’s in Bali. It is one of the most popular cakes in Bali. The process of making this cake is also simple and it doesn’t take a lot of time until the cupcakes are ready to be served.
Before anything, the lid of t he steamer must be covered with a cloth it is to absorb waters that will be produced from the hot steam. Then, eggs, baking powder, sugar, salt and flour is mixed in a container to make the cake batter. When the cake batter is done, some coconut milk and vegetable oil is added. After it is mixed well, it is moved into cake molds or paper cups, some food coloring can be added to make various colors of Bolu Kukus. The cake batter that is moved to the cake mold is steamed and the lid of the steamer must be closed well. The cake is steamed for about 15 minutes. The sweet and delicious steamed cupcakes are now ready to be served.
