Did you know Serangan Island is part of Bali Island which is located in south of Sanur Beach about 73 hectares area? You can reach this island within 30 minutes from Ngurah Rai International Airport, and there are just a small bridge which connecting Bali and Serangan Island. The bridge can be accessed at anytime and not depended on the high tide anymore like previously where local people must use the local traditional boats when crossing sea that separate the islands. It had been love story for local people when the bridge not built yet at that time where they must use traditional boat to access or walk on the sand when low tide. The boat also can be accessed through Sanur, Suwung or Tanjung Benoa.
Serangan Island or many people call this island with Pulau Penyu (Turtle Island) because Serangan Island is a Green Turtle breeding and local people appointed the island as one of the turtle conservation site. It was lucky for me when visited this island that I can saw a unique moment, when a hundreds of ‘Tukik’ or baby turtle released at Serangan Beach.
Mangrove Forest Conservation
In addition to see turtles in Serangan Island, I also visited the Serangan Beach blessed by panoramic view and great waves that ideally for surfing. Many surfers come to this surf spot and perfectly surf when the raining season due to the wind flows from west to the east that create the greats waves. Serangan Island has also been a mangrove forest conservation which very conserved by the local people. In order to prevent the mangroves damage, local people and also the instigators of nature preservation work together to plant new mangrove seedlings. And it is will be a unique experience if you can join to plant new mangrove seedlings.
